The Purcell’s Official Christmas Letter For 2010

As I look back on 2010, I think, “Wow! Have we ever been busy around here on Cherry Lane.”  I am happy to say that, despite our chaotic schedules, we have put things in their proper order. More often than not, family and friends came first.

We have a friend, whose children are all grown up. She once told us, “If I were to do it all over again, I would do less house work/gardening and play more with my kids.” We have taken that advice to heart. Many times, this past year, we have let the dishes lie, and the vacuuming go undone, and in its place, we have created memories.

So, although we have been very busy working, living, studying, cleaning, running errands and doing all those daily “chores,”   we have not forgoten the advice of our good friend Janelle.   I’m proud of that. Here is a “year in review” of what we have accomplished.

HAD A MUD FIGHT

HAD A WATER FIGHT

HAD A WHIPPED CREAM FIGHT

MADE PAPER AIRPLANES

ATE ICE CREAM

DRESSED UP IN COSTUMES

ATE COTTON CANDY

WENT FISHING

WENT SWIMMING

LICKED BEATERS

VISITED LONG-TIME FRIENDS

LONG-TIME FRIENDS VISITED US

HUNG OUT WITH FAMILY

BABYSAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Yes, we did babysit a fish. His name is Fred.

COOKED A LOT OF FOOD (IN CHAOS)

PLAYED IN THE SNOW

WE READ BOOKS

Even when we were working and doing chores, we really got into it and had fun.

Oh my gosh! I feel tired just thinking about all that. There was much, much more that we accomplished, but I am going to stop there. I think you get the point.

GROSS THINGS THAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR

I had to crawl on this disgusting floor to open a stall door for Lily

We let McCann play with Emma in her dog crate

MAJOR EVENTS

Inherited a new brother-in-law and two nephews.

Fauneil’s dad turned 75. We built a dance floor and threw him a big party.

I became a great-uncle and Fauneil a great-aunt.

WHAT’S GOING ON WITH US?

McCann loves three things: his mom,

His dog,

and marshmallows (in that order).

He had surgery this year.

He also had a cool cake for his birthday (made by Fauneil).

Lily loves reading,

Abi (my brother’s girlfriend, although Lily claims she’s HER girlfriend),

And school (not necessarily in that order).

She made frequent visits to Dr. Pond at Shriner’s Hospital for children.

She had a very cool birthday party with Play-Doh

There are three things Brandon likes:

Football,

Football,

and Football. How an interior design loving, cooking fanatic like me produced a kid like this, I will never know.

Brandon has achieved several awards at school (which we are very proud of), and did I say he loves football?

Fauneil loves

McCann,

Lily,

Brandon,

and, of course, me.

She is back in school to become a pharmacist (we are both back in school and switching to the medical field).

I love McCann,

Lily,

Brandon,

and, of course, Fauneil.

I still work at the hospital, and  I am moving towards  a nursing degree (then eventually a degree as a practitioner).

Well, that is it folks. Have a Merry Christmas and a grand New Year.

Love,

The Purcells

  1. Your Christmas Letter is the most entertaining, on target, humorous, informative, happy and loving as any I have ever seen. You have found the cure for the traditional long, boring, written narrative we usually receive. Opps! I hope someone who sent us the boing long narrative doesn’t read this.
Thanks for sharing what the magnificent Purcell family did in 2010. You have revived my interest in Christmas letters. I am already looking forward to your next year’s letter showing Luhi with his Nursing degree and driving a new sports car.
Merry Christmas to you from the Spencer household around the corner. We love you and we love your whackiness!

  2. Thanks so much for sending me this link! I loved catching up and especially the pictures! Looks like everyone is doing well. I am so pleased to hear that. Good luck with the year ahead. I know it will be great for you all!

  3. Aren’t you glad you didn’t print 400 copies and suffer the medical repercussions of licking 400 envelopes?

Good letter. Glad to see life has somehow carried on without us living in your basement. 😉

    • Hugh, I have mixed feelings about the physical Christmas card thing. I love seeing all the cards on our mantle, but the web can make a Christmas card 1000 times better (plus the whole medical outcome is a whole lot better. And the cost of stamps times 400 isn’t appealing either.)

  4. Very nice Christmas letter, photos and all. Says it all concisely. Merry Christmas, Purcells. From the other Provo Purcells.

  5. THE best Christmas letter I have ever seen!!! Thanks Purcells to make me part still of your family happenings! You guys simply just ROCK! Love and greetings and a very merry Christmas to you too from the not warm at all Floridaaa!

  6. Awesome in everyway!!! Things have been crazy busy at our house. No Christmas cards from the Haynes this year. Merry Christmas to you guys. Love you & Think of you often. xoxo Scott & Lori

  7. Such a great blog. Thanks for the updates. I’m sure Emma is in Heaven. We still love Colorado, although Claine recently took the LSAT and it’s a big possibility that we will end up in law school come fall. Crazy…
You have such a beautiful family, and the best part is, you guys realize it.
    Merry Christmas!
    Then Snow

  9. Love, love, love your Official Christmas Letter! Thanks for sharing your updates with us. Merry Christmas! love, jo, michael, & baby sean

  10. Anna — excuse me, SISTER Anna told me about your Christmas letter. She could not stop telling me about it. It is everything she said and more. I laughed and cried and I am so glad that you had a whipped cream fight. I could almost taste it! I am also so happy to see all the wonderful pictures of your family, because they are my family too! Thank you Thank you.

Speaking of SISTER Anna, she opened a letter today signed by the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson. Sister Anna is official. She has been called as a full-time missionary on an ASL Mission. Guess where. To the Riverside California Mission, to serve for another twelve months. She opened her mission call already wearing her nametag and standing in the Mission Office where she has been called to serve. She has always had a unique life and this has been no exception. Her first companion completes her mission on 28 December. We hope to see another companion soon.

We celebrate the privilege we have of being related to YOUR wonderful unique family.

    We love you,
    Sister and Elder Robinson

  11. Your Christmas letter is the way to go. That 8 or 9 dip ice cream cone is my type of cone!

A Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all your family from the Bartle’s.
